Eugene H. "Gene" Alkire

A graveside service for Eugene H. "Gene" Alkire, 94, of Washington Court House was held Friday, August 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Washington Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Current, pastor at the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Complete military honors were bestowed by the Veterans of Fayette County Honor Guard. The flag of the World War II Army veteran, was folded by John Mason and Charles "Buck" Harris and was presented to Mr. Alkire's daughter, Ann Main. Members of the honor guard were Chuck Snyder, Tom Slager, Sheldon Litton, Cliff Puckett, David Frederick, Jack Smallwood and John McCullough with Bill Foody serving as commander. Stephen Zastrow and Larry Bishop sounded taps.

Mr. Alkire, former co-owner and operator of Alkire's Bakery and widower of Mary Margaret "Margie" Howard Alkire, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Court House Manor.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
