Billy Joe Cummings, 67, of Washington Court House, Ohio went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 13, 2015, at 4 p.m. shortly after arrival at Fayette County Memorial Hospital. His death was sudden and unexpected.

Billy was born October 27, 1947, in Fayette County, Ohio to H. Earl and Della Harmon Cummings. He was a 1965 graduate of Miami Trace High School and lived most of his life in this community.

Before his retirement, he was a corrections officer for 31 years at the London Correctional Institute. He loved farming and, since his retirement, has been assisting his son with the family farm.

Billy was a strong and dedicated Christian and member of The Gathering Place Church where he was an usher and active in the Men's Ministries. He was a member of the Wilmington Area Emmaus Community and participated in Walk 47 in February 2008. He was a United States Army veteran and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Tired Iron Antique Tractor Club; was an avid Miami Trace Football fan and a devoted grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Luther Flowers.

Billy is survived by his wife, the former Marsha L. Robinson whom he married April 15, 1977; three children and their spouses, Chelsey and Doug Neal of Grove City, Kandi and Patrick Williams of Orient and Nick and Sunny Cummings, of Washington Court House and five grandchildren, Autumn and Hunter Neal and Tyler, Hannah and Hayden Cummings.

The funeral will be Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Way, Washington Court House with Todd Maurer, minister at the church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at Crossroads Christian Church Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of The Gathering Place Church, 120 West Court Street, Washington Court House, Ohio 43160.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
