    Myrtle Bentley, 96, of Washington Court House formerly of South Solon passed away at Fayette County Memorial Hospital in Washington Court House on December 3, 2013. She was born May 11, 1917 to the late Loren Roscoe and Lucy A. Haynes Smith in Bloomingburg. She was a 1935 graduate of Stokes High School and spent her adult years as a resident of Fayette County. On December 24, 1935 she married Thurman P. Bentley. Following their marriage they managed the small Shady Grove Grocery Store in northern Fayette County. In 1940 they purchased a small farm on Moon Evans Road. Myrtle continued to live on the farm until September, 2001 when she moved to Washington Court House. She worked for the A&P Grocery for 19 years retiring in 1975. She was a member of the South Solon United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and secretary. She was noted for the many pounds of noodles she handmade for their social suppers. She is survived by her son; Richard Olan (Janie) Bentley of Washington Court House, her daughter Sharon Ann (Robert J.) Lebow of Statesville, North Carolina, her brother Ervin (Daisy) Smith of Hillsboro , her sister in law, Janis Miller, and her grandchildren, Greg (Jodi) Bentley, Mark (Karen) Bentley , both of Washington Court House and Lauren J. Lebow of Libby, MT. She is also survived by her great grandchild Brock Avery Bentley and her step great grandchildren Ridley and Weston Helsel, Justin and Clay Wines, Austin Braden and Andrea (Andy) Sloan, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bentley was preceded in death by her husband , Thurman Bentley, a brother, Loren Smith Jr. and a sister Mary Alice Smith and a sister in law, Chlorita Smith. The funeral service will be held Monday, December 9 , 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Morrow Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with Pastor Ralph Lininger of the South Solon United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery. Friends may call at the Morrow Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Monday, December 9 from 10:00 a.m until the time of the service.
