KENNETH W. JOHNSON(1928 - 2013)

KENNETH WILLIAM JOHNSON 04/19/28-04/27/13 Kenneth (Ken) William Johnson passed away Saturday April 27,2013 at Shasta Regional Hospital in Redding after a lengthy illness. Ken was born on April 19,1928, in Mountain View CA. to the parents of Thomas and Muriel Johnson. Ken spent most of his life in the Bay Area. In 1945 Ken enlisted into the Marine Corp. Because of both of his brothers losing their lives in the battle of Tarawa, Ken was unable to serve overseas but did serve stateside on and off through the end of World War II and into the Korean War. On June 27,1953 Ken married Charline LaTourette. They lived in San Jose, CA and raised three children: Kathy, Tom, and Mark. Ken was a Industrial Electrical Contractor by trade servicing many large industries such as Boise Cascade, Foster Farms, Modem Ice, Nature Ripe and International Paper to name a few. Ken and his family enjoyed coming up to camp and fish at Shasta Lake and Eagle Lake. They spent many a summer enjoying Northern California. In 1991 Ken and Char made the move to Red Bluff. Ken continued to work on and off into his 70s. Ken had a strong passion to fish and loved being out on his boat with friends and family. Ken belonged to the local chapter of the Marine Corp League where he served on the honor guard. Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Char, his sister Margorie Orcutt of Texas, his brother Hugh and brother Tom. He is survived by his daughter Kathy Vanatta (Jeff) of Red Bluff, son Tom Johnson (Amy) of San Diego, CA, and son Mark Johnson (Veronica) of Corvalis, OR. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Ken, Heidi, and Alan and eight great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA on May 17 at 11:00 am.
