Robert W. James(1925 - 2012)

ROBERT W. JAMES March 17, 1925 - November 3, 2012 Bob James passed away at his home in Red Bluff on November 3, 2012. He was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, on March 17, 1925 to William and Agnes James and was the third of twelve children. He left school at the age of 16 to pursue a life-long career as a logger and later a logging road builder. He married Esther Collman on July 15, 1943. In August of the same year he was drafted into the service and joined the Marines. He fought in the Central Pacific where he received two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star. He was a member of the Second Marine Division, Sixth Regiment, Third Battalion, I Company and participated in the landings on Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. He led his squad in patrolling Nagasaki after the bomb had been dropped. Bob was preceded in death by Esther James, his beloved wife of sixty-five years in 2004. He is survived by son; Douglas James and Judi Sutherland, and daughter; Diana Froome and husband Jim, grandchildren; Tony James and wife Carol, Corrie Stella and husband Jay, Matt Froome and wife Cielo, and Rebecca Spindler and husband Robert. He also has four great-granddaughters; Abby, Amelia, Isobel, and Lilliana. Services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:00 am at Chapel of the Flowers in Red Bluff.
