RUTH KINSELLA MATHISEN R.I.P Ruth Kinsella Mathisen Born Ruth Rae Kinsella on March 4, 1927 in Burbank California to John Francis and Esther Ellen (Craig) Kinsella She died from complications of a stroke on April 13, 2013 in Anderson, California. Ruth grew up in Southern California, graduating from high school in San Diego during World War II. Following the war, she married Troy McClure, a naval airman. They had seven children; David, Timothy, Ellen, Michael, Patrick, Mark and Meryl. Shortly after the birth of her youngest child, she found herself a single mother. She returned to Cabrillo College and became a Registered Dental Hygienist. She practiced in Santa Cruz-Watsonville, and then Kingman, Arizona before settling in Red Bluff in 1978. In 1983, she married Erik Mathisen of Red Bluff. They settled in Quailridge Ranches near Cottonwood. When she retired, Ruth became active in community affairs. She was an early volunteer at community radio station KZFR in Chico. For several years, she was a HICAP vounteer in Tehama County. She also volunteered as a tutor in the Tehama Literacy Program. Ruth was a strong supporter of women's rights and a passionate advocate for gay rights. Following the death of her son, Timothy from AIDS, she became active in the Names Project and accompanied Tim's AIDS Quilt panel on its first trip to the Capitol Mall. She was active in Democratic politics and was a member of the Tehama County Democratic Central Committee at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Timothy. She is survived by her husband, Erik Mathisen of Red Bluff, her children David Kinsella (Braden Cord) of Calera, Oklahoma, Ellen McClure, Michael McClure (David Ching)of San Bruno, Patrick McClure of Santa Cruz, Meryl McClure of Sunnyvale, and Mark McClure (Donna) of Meridian, Idaho. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 12noon on Saturday, May 4 at the Elks Lodge in Red Bluff. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that people donate to the Ruth Kinsella Mathisen Scholarship fund at Tri-Counties Bank in Red Bluff. The scholarship will be given to a student seeking a career in healthcare
