Jack Gassel In Memoriam
JACK HOWARD GASSEL March 1, 1924 - February 20, 2013 Jack Howard Gassel was born on March 1, 1924 in Canton, Ohio to Jacob and Bertha Gassel. Jack graduated from Greentown High School in 1943. Later that year, he entered the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. he served from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo as an Agricultural Engineer. He worked 37 years for the U.S. government in the Department of Agriculture with Soil Conservation Service. After retirement, he was a private consultant and also did irrigation systems for many people. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Bluff for more than 20 years. He made mission trips to China and Alaska. He belonged to the National Association Retired Federal Employees. He was the leader of non-denominational Christian singles group. He always greeted people with a firm handshake and a smile. He is survived by three sisters; Barbara Allen, JoAnn Hoff, and Mary Feiser, two sons; Steven (Lyn) and Paul (Patti), four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, three step grandchildren, and nine step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and his special friend Lita Olberg. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 26, at the Chapel of the Flowers from 5:00-8:00 pm and funeral services on Wednesday, February 27, at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Internment will be held at Igo Veteran's Cemetery on February 27, at 2:00 pm.
