After high school graduation, she enrolled in then Oregon State College in Corvallis, Oregon. At college Pat met future husband Jim at a USO dance while Jim was in the Army training as a mapping engineer. Pat and Jim were married on May 10, 1944, in University Temple United Methodist Church, Seattle, WA.
