CARL WALTER NILES DEC 17, 1924 - MAY 4, 2013 Carl was born in Newkirk, Oklahoma and moved to Southern California in the 1930's and from there he enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater as a Seaman 1st Class until his discharge in 1946. He married Florence Hapgood in 1948 and they had two children - Michael in 1954 and Marsha in 1956. He retired in 1980 after 30 years of truck driving and they moved to Corning where he enjoyed the next 33 years raising cows, pigs, chickens, rabbits growing fruit trees, especially apple trees, and gardening and making friends. He was hospitalized with pneumonia last month, but wanted to be home in time to celebrate his 65th wedding anniversary with the love of his life on May 1st, and he was. He was a very caring, generous, husband, father, grandfather, and friend with a terrific sense of humor and will be sorely missed by many. He leaves behind his wife, daughter, granddaughter Alicia Sanders, great-granddaughters Alijaah, Vana, Kyla, and Gianna Sanders and his sister Peggy Bell of Pahrump, Nevada. A celebration/memorial of his life will be held at his home Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 11am to 2pm.
