John Benjamin Cornelius went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2013, 4:04PM, after a short illness. John served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and while serving he was part of the Berlin Airlift and won the Golden Gloves in his weight division. John was a retired fire chief from Santa Clara County and was in the fire service for over 30 years. He was an entrepreneur, starting several businesses while also working in the fire service. He had a Life-Time Teaching Credential in Fire Science. John was very active in the community for many years; he was a Master Mason; a member of the Shasta County Planning Commission for 16 years; President of the Oak Run Ditch Company, and active in the Shasta County Republican Party.
John moved to Shasta County 32 years ago with his family. He loved working on his ranch and growing his sizeable vegetable garden. John could always be counted on to help his friends and neighbors and his word was his bond. John was a patriot and loved his country.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mardi; his daughters, Stacey Cornelius and Kimberly Rumford of Oak Run; and his son, Randy Cornelius of Texas. He is the loving brother of Eloise Moulton of Georgia and Camille Womack of Arizona; his nieces, Barbara Wix and Pam Garrey of Arizona, Cynthia Cornelius of Whitmore and his nephew, Wayne Pearson of Georgia. John is also survived by his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Cassie and Samantha Cornelius, Aiden Rumford, Jake and Kyle Cornelius, Erica, LeeAnne and Shane Cornelius, as well as great nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by two of his children, Renee' and Ricky, and his brother Frank. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Palo Cedro, CA on December 14, 2013 at 11:00 am.
John will be interred at the Northern California Veterans' Cemetery in Igo, CA on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 9:30 am. Those who wish to make a donation, please make them to the Northern California Veterans' Cemetery.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. John meant so much to me and was such an incredible "Dad" to all of us while growing up!
I will be home in Palo Cedro and am able to attend his service and honor/celebrate his life.
