Walter Dibblee Obituary

Walter Malcolm Dibblee died peacefully on March 24, 2013 at Canyonwood Kindred Care. Walter was born August 13, 1923 to Etta Hale Shaw Dibblee and Donald Dunham Dibblee in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. His family immigrated to the US when he was a young boy, settling in Longview, Washington. After graduating from High School in 1941, Walt enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he served from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. He was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi where he met and married Private Katheryn Jane Flick on April 25, 1945. Their daughter Connie was born in 1946 after returning to Longview, Washington.

Walter graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA in 1949 and started his career establishing Walt Dibblee Photography in Ventura. To complete the family, twin boys Michael and Steven were born in 1951. After purchasing his Cessna in 1959, he added aerial photography to his commercial business. In 1980 he retired to Redding, CA leaving his business to his son Steven who carries on the business. He then became a camp cook for his son-in-law's surveying company Del Terra Inc., retiring in 1986. Retirement brought many wonderful years of traveling in their motor home throughout the U.S. and Canada. We will miss your kindness, your creative style of handyman antics, your unique sense of humor and the laughter in your eyes. We are comforted by knowing you are now at peace.

Walt is preceded in death by his wife, Katheryn Dibblee; his sister, Ruth Hightower; his brother, Grant Dibblee and his son-in-law, Doug Bond.

He is survived by his daughter, Connie Bond; sons, Steven Dibblee (Mariane), Michael Dibblee (Patricia); grandchildren, Shelley Bond-Thomas (Ronald), Scott Bond (Michelle), Matthew Dibblee, Sara Dibblee, Kaitlynn Dibblee and Kaileigh Dibblee; great grandchildren, Kailey O'Connor (Kailey's father David O'Connor), Caden, Trevor, and Dillon Bond.

A private military service is pending at the Veterans Cemetery in Igo, Ca.

Sending our sincere sympathy to your entire family -

About a decade ago, when I stopped by Walter's place and found him in his little workshop just back of the house, I noticed a small guitar sitting there. Since my guitar had been stolen about that time, I asked Walt how much he wanted for it. At 15 bucks, the price was right. I bought it, put new strings on it and I still use it in the summer when I go backpacking in the Trinity Alps. So sometime soon, maybe tonight, I'm going to take that little guitar from the wall, put it on my lap, tune it up and sing "I Ride an Old Paint" in memory of Walter.
