Robert Leroy Martz Redding, CA June 6, 1928 - May 21, 2016 Robert Leroy Martz passed away peacefully on May 21, 2016. He was born in Sebastopol, CA, on June 6, 1928 to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister, Delores Rodgers of Petaluma, CA, and by his son, Kenneth Wayne Martz of Newport, OR. He grew up in Sebastopol, CA, attending the local schools and graduating from Analy Union High School in 1947. Bob, as he was known to family and friends, worked in the retail business for many years, starting with Big and Little in his early twenties and going on to Newberry's and finally to Sprouse-Reitz Variety Stores, where he spent 25 years until his retirement in 1988. After several years of retirement, he began working at the Lorenz Hotel in downtown Redding, where he worked for 9.5 years at the front desk. Bob is survived by his wife, Lenora, and three of his four children: Rochelle (Mark Sandberg) of Eugene, OR; Linda (Tim Haley) of Cottonwood, CA; and Sarah (Darryl Mincer) of Redding. Williamson, Greta - Redding
Greta Williamson Redding, CA Greta Williamson passed peacefully at her historic downtown home on May 13, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Del Williamson. Greta was born in Dumas, Ark., on Aug. 13, 1934, and by 1950 her family had relocated to Burney. There were numerous funny stories of the culture shock experienced by a teenager from Arkansas becoming a California girl. Greta's first job was with Burney dentist Dr. Leonard Carrick, a position that started a 50-year career in the medical field. She also worked with Redding physicians Lee Fulton, Jim Campbell, Ron Rankin and Vicki Philben. While in Burney, Greta met her beloved Del and soon entered into a 61-year marriage with the love of her life. Together they raised two children, Stan Williamson and Lynda Drake. In her later years, Greta kept in touch with her Fall River High School classmates and volunteered with Mercy Hospice. She was active with P.E.O., a philanthropic organization that supports advanced learning opportunities for women. Greta thoroughly enjoyed her weekly lunch gatherings with "her girls." She is survived by son, Stan, and his wife, Cary; and grandson, Christopher (and Dana); and granddaughter, Katelyn; daughter, Lynda Drake, and husband, Mitch; granddaughters, Jessica Wade (and Caleb and great-grandson Conner), Amanda and Kelsey. Greta was a wonderful person who dearly loved her family and friends. She will be missed. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2850 Foothill Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mercy Hospice, 1544 Market St., Redding CA 96001.
