Nicholas Tranquilla Obituary

Nicholas Michael Tranquilla

1942 - 2014

Nicholas Michael Tranquilla was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 21, 1942.
He died in Redding, California on March 22, 2014 at the age of 72.

Nick was the eldest son of Joseph and Jean Tranquilla, deceased.

He leaves his daughter, Meghan Ann Hohenthaner (Peter), grandson Parker, granddaughter Reese, his brother, Michael Joseph Tranquilla (Nadine) as well as a niece and nephews and a great nephew. He will be missed by his cousins, his 101 year old aunt, and his coffee group as well as many friends and co-workers.

Nick grew up in San Jose, went to college in Texas and worked for several companies in the Santa Clara Valley before moving to Weaverville, CA. He sold everything he owned, moved his family north and bought a bar and restaurant called The Gables. Everybody's dream! Sadly it was short-lived and he went back to his first love, law enforcement. He graduated from the Police Academy in Eureka and joined the Trinity County Sheriff's Department and was with them until retirement.

Retirement was his in all its glory and he spent his remaining years as one of Weaverville's champions.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at The Victorian Inn in Weaverville on Friday, March 28,
noon - 2pm. Please come and share your stories. Nick always loved the stories!

Please call Meghan at 209-612-5173 with questions.

I have known Nick since we were in high school together in Mtn. View, ca. One day I was booking a drunk in the shasta co. jail. I looked across the room and there was Nick. What a surprise after about 20+ years. Nick was always a great person and will be missed. ( He was transporting an inmate from w'ville at the time. Phil Scarry

Meghan, I was so sad to see your Dads obituary. I loved visiting with him after he was done with his coffee group. He was always excited to see all the new kitchen products I was bringing in the store. He was a great guy. My thoughts are with you and you family during this time.

I went to the academy with Nick and the "others" from Trinity County and retired from Law Enforcement based on several great talks that Nick and I had during the academy times. Thank you Nick. RIP my friend.
