Eunice Wever Obituary

1921 – 2010
Eunice E. Wever, 89, of Concord, CA passed away quietly on October 22, 2010. She was born on January 30, 1921 to George Alexander and Vesta Arvilla (Pool) Hultberg in Adna, WA. Delivered at home by her maternal grandmother, she was so small that her grandmother put her in a shoe box and placed her in the oven of a wood stove for needed warmth. Eunice was raised in Centralia, WA and graduated from Centralia High School in 1939. As a graduation present, she was sent to the 1939 Worlds Fair in San Francisco. She attended Business School in Seattle where she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Wever. They were married on Valentines Day, 1942. While living in Puyallup during World War II, she gave birth to their son, Rick. Following the war, they moved back to Centralia,WA where Dick and her brother Max purchased and operated Quality Cleaners. She went to work as an Employment Counselor for the Washington State Employment Office in 1957 and worked there until her retirement in 1980. For years she traveled to the local high schools each spring to counsel seniors not planning on going on to college, on job opportunities and how to apply for work. She also served on the local Salvation Army Board for many years. She and her husband spent the next 12 years traveling the world. When the grandchildren were old enough to appreciate it, they were each taken on a special trip to exciting places like Greece, Egypt, New York, Mexico, and Hawaii. Wonderful memories and deepened family bonds were made during those trips. In 1992, they moved to The Vineyards in Redding, CA to be nearer their son and his family. She lost her beloved husband, Dick, in July of 2002. As her health declined, but still determined to be independent, she moved into The Chateau for Senior Living in Concord in 2009. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her perseverance and her love of bridge. Eunice's greatest passion in life was spending time with her family, most especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by each of them.
She is survived by her son, Rick Wever (Carol) Concord, CA, six grandchildren: Coleman "Kip" Wever Concord, CA; Ali Wever Bower (Jon) Woodland, CA; Tod Wever (Holly) Las Vegas, NV; Amy Wever Chambers (Kevin) Taylorsville, UT; Emily Wever Clark (Mike) Draper, UT; Tyler Wever of Concord, CA and five great grandchildren: Evan, Grant, Lennon, Larry, and Oliver. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Dick, parents George and Vesta Hultberg, her step dad Cole Rainey, her brother Max Hultberg, sister Virginia Hultberg, and nephew Brad Hultberg. Private family services will be held at a later date.

I appreciate all my Grandmother has done for me and my family over the years, from buying me my school clothes as a child, to taking me on fun vacations, but most of all I appreciate her example of how to be a productive, independent women. I learned a lot from her.

She was a wonderful women and Grandmother & Great Grandmother and Jon, Oliver and I will miss her very very much!

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy in the loss of your Mother. Many years ago I worked for Quality Cleaners as a route salesman. I have fond memories of your Mom, Dad and Uncle Max. Again, my deepest sympathy.

My children couldn't have asked for a kinder, more generous grandmother. She played an important role in all their lives and her love and support in all that they did was evident each and every day. She also adored her great grandchildren and was looking forward to her sixth great grandchild due in March. Our sadness is only made bearable in knowing she is no longer encumbered by the physical infirmities that slowed her down a bit in recent years, and that she is now reunited with her beloved husband, family and friends whom she has missed so much.

So sorry to hear this. I'm glad she got to see some pics of family and friends from Centralia this summer. I have happy memories of a Hawaii trip with Eunice, Dick, and Janielle some years back. Peace and comfort to all...
