Lois Potter Obituary

1926 - 2010
It was July 4th, 1926 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania when a beautiful baby girl was born. Lois Jacqueline Kelly could not have known her life would have such a great impact on those who would come to know and love her.
She began her life as a coal miner's daughter. Her loving kindness and humor where among the many strengths such a beginning must have given her. In her youth, Lois played the saxophone in the high school marching band and enjoyed snow skiing as well. She did all this while holding a job to help support her family. She was very active with an abundance of energy and an insatiable desire for adventure. Later she gathered her daughter and followed that sense of adventure and her heart to Klamath Falls, OR to begin a new life.
In the 1960's, she moved to Redding, CA along with her daughter, aunt and uncle and began a waitressing career at Lims Cafe that spanned nearly 30 years. Anyone that enjoyed a meal at Lim's cafe during those years was likely served by Lois. She developed a close relationship with the Lim's family that continued for the rest of her life. While in Redding she experienced the thrill and rare accomplishment of bowling a perfect 300 game more than once in her bowling league. She was an active member of the Moose Lodge for over 20 years.
After Lois retired from Lim's cafe, she began a new life once again, this time with her daughter in Sacramento. She lived with Shari until her final journey to heaven in this year of our Lord, 2010.
She passed with dignity and grace on Friday October 29 in the company of her loving family and close friends. She was fervent in living, kind of heart, full of laughter and she dearly loved her family. Lois is survived by her daughter Shari Cekalovich, Shari's husband Jim, granddaughter Jackie Kashow, Jackie's husband Randy, granddaughter Wendy Lattimer, great granddaughter Amber Kashow, stepdaughter's Peggy Manuel and Laurie Kempton and stepson Richard Potter. Lois, such a loving kind woman, mother, and friend will forever be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday November 21 at 11 a.m. at Lombard & Company 1550 Fulton Ave. Sacramento, California.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Mercy Hospital Hospice. A special thanks to Dr. Timothy Lee for his compassionate care of mom!

I thank you Lois J Potter for the very best years of my life. You were fun, provocative, interesting, captivating and loving to me. I f I had never met you my life would not have been the same. I thank you for loving my father. I'm certa...in you were the best part of his life. Thank you for taking care of me and making sure I had breakfast every morning before you went to work it was a lways on the table waiting for me before I went to school. You balanced my father by telling him I was just a girl. You protected me and gave me purpose. I have never felt more loved, and not just that, you made sure I felt loved and that I could do anything I put myself into. I could not have become as loving and I could not have the love for my family that I do without your love as a mother. I would never have gone fishing or camping or had a desire to see the world without listening to your stories of New York and the whole wide world out ther that you enjoyed. Come on, how did you come to this small town Redding, find my father and inspire me so much? I am complete as a woman because you are my dearest friend and I will and have passed forward all you gave so freely to me. I love you mom of all moms and Shari and her family too. Another great family that you have made for us....Thank you incredable woman tha I will never, ever forget...See More

I loved my Grammy so much!! She is, and has always been my strength. I have always looked up to how she handles anything that came her way, she always took life in stride, and took things head on without regret. If I fear anything from this point on, I will see through her eyes...What would Grandma do? She has forever touched my heart!!

I love you Grammy!

You went so peacefully, with dignity, and I know you felt our love. We felt yours too!

I could say so much...but, I know you know my thoughts!!! I love you!!

Your Grandaughter,
Wendy :)
