Michael Delgado Obituary

Michael Arthur Delgado
(M.A.D.)

January 10, 1949 - October 24, 2010

Michael Delgado was the personification of: love, wisdom, humor, gentleness, and loyalty. One of his passions was working with the at risk teenage population. He received many awards for his teaching abilities. His biggest reward was the high success rate of the students that made positive life changes for their futures. He was a strong advocate for his student's rights, he would also advocate for the staff. Anytime one needed his help, he would be there to mentor them staff and students alike. He had such a presence of credibility that when he talked, told stories or anecdotes, all would listen.

Mike was a tower of integrity, strength, and passion; no one knew this better than his wife, family, and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Lamb; his wife Joyce, or Joycie as he called her. She was very fortunate to be with him almost every day for 37 years; his siblings are Patty, John and his wife Ann, and David. He was very proud of his children: Terri, Susan, James and George. They are self-supporting hard working adults. John, Stephanie, and Rose are his nieces and nephew and he had a wonderful plethora of great nieces.

He will be greatly missed but every time we think of him, talk of him, feel him in our hearts, his essence will be a vital part of our lives.

Instead of flowers he would like scholarships set up for the at risk students.
Donations may be made to the Oasis School in care of Newton-Bracewell Funeral Homes.

Services will be held on November 6, 2010 at 12 pm, noon,
at the Eagles Hall 5941 Sacramento Ave. Dunsmuir, CA 96025.

Working with Mr. D. (was it 5 or 6 years??)made coming to work a pleasure. This pleasure was heightened almost daily with visits from Joyce. Joyce, I'm truly saddened. I could not attend Mike's services as my Mother passed 11/2, but remembered all his day
the laughter, compassion and his great intelligence. Love to you, Mike.

I, too, had the pleasure of working with Mike from 1989-1997 at Live Oak Community School. He was an amazing teacher and colleague. My heart goes out to Joyce and family in their tremendous loss.

I read a quote that goes, "My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived and let me watch him do it."
- C.B. Kelland
I would respectfully alter Kelland's quote to say about Mike,
"My Mentor didn't tell me how to teach; he taught, and let me watch him do it."
I was instructional aide for Mike for close to eight years, before becoming a teacher. I count it as my great and good fortune to have known him, but I am grateful for the time and encouragement he put into my learning. I missed him when I left the safety and guidance of his expertise and experience, and I miss him still.

I worked with Mike at Oasis Community School... I miss him. I learned so much about the history of the school from him. He was always my reality check.

I met Mike in 1989, when i started teaching at Live Oak. Mike was a great mentor, generously sharing his unique knowledge about our student population.
I still teach at Oasis Community School (the new name for Live Oak) and sorely miss his humor and wisdom. I have lost a very good friend who will be missed by all the staff at our school.

I met Michael Delgado in 1986 when he and I and others joined the staff at Oasis School (then Live Oak Community High School). I moved onto another campus in 1991 and Mr. Delgado stayed to keep the school's strength moving forward. He was always a gentle giant that staff and students alike looked up to and confided in. His presence and influence will never leave us.
