Richard Goyer Obituary
1924 - 2010
Richard Goyer was born in Chasm Falls, New York on November 5, 1924 and
passed away unexpectedly December 1, 2010 at Shasta Regional Medical Center, Redding, CA.
He was a World War II veteran who served in the European Theatre, landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany. After the war he was a long haul truck driver, transporting new cars to dealers in Arizona and California for 25 plus years. He belonged to the Montebello Mounted Posse in Los Angeles. He moved from Los Angeles to Shasta County and has resided here since 1968. His local sign shop "Goyer's Signs" was a dream come true but was short lived and he returned to trucking until his health made him quit.
He was a member of the Redding Moose Lodge, and the Red Cross Emergency Response Team of Redding. He loved Redding and participated in many of the local events. He always enjoyed the annual Christmas tree cutting in Redding and was successful at guessing the tree height not once, but twice in the same year (Anderson, Redding). That really tickled him. He sharpened "blades" for most of the local dog grooming shops in Shasta County. He lived in Shasta Lake City for almost 40 years, and belonged to the Shasta Lake Seniors where you could find him any day of the week painting his little model houses and conversing with other seniors. He was a father figure and mentor to many of his family members.
Richard is survived by his loving companion of 38 years, Luella Pippin; his two stepsons, Ricky Dryden, Redding, Steven Dryden, Oregon; three nieces Joyce Johnston, Redding, Noreen Dobbert, Sacramento, and Vicky Goyer, Indiana; three nephews, Danny Marquis, Sacramento, Richard Marquis, Redding, and Ronald Goyer, New York. He was a beloved Dad, Uncle, Grandpa and Great Grandpa who loved old country music, dancing, camping, boating, hunting, and traveling.
Burial services will be held at 9:00 AM on December 20, 2010 at the
California State Veteran Cemetery in Igo, CA.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on December 20, 2010 at the
Shasta Lake Senior Hall in Shasta Lake City, CA.

It always amazed me how different my Uncle was from my father. We were very lucky to have had a chance to reconnect with my Uncle Richard these past few years.
Every Sept they would travel "back east" to see the colors. We took many wonderful trips with him and my Father, Lu, Pat and I. No matter where we went he was able to connect with people with a smile and a story.
On our last trip to Alaska he grabbed a hat as he was leaving the house. It had WW ll Veteran on it. Pushing his wheel chair around Seattle and on the ship he was constantly stopped and thanked for his service in the military.
Uncle Richard you will be missed terribly but remain forever in our hearts. I hope that I can learn from your wonderful example and be a fraction of the man you were. I Love You.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Lou and all of Richard's family. Even though we didn't know Richard that well we know he had a BIG HEART and will be missed by so very many friends and family members. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers!! Love your cousins in San Diego, Ca.

Richard, you were such a caring and loving person. You were the most caring and nicest person to be around. Everytime I would see you, you would put a smile on my face. You made me feel so lucky to have a friend like you. I will miss you and you will always be in my heart forever.

When I first met Richard, it was when I started grooming dogs. Richard would come by to sharpen my blades and he would stay and visit. He was a pleasure to be around. He alwalys had a smile on his face. He sure knew how to make me smile, too. I loved all of those visit's we shared.
Richard was a great friend to me. When my daughter was very ill, Richard was their for me and he gave me alot a support.
He loved dogs and always brought treats to give the dog's. Richard will be missed very missed, and he will always be in my heart.

I met Richard many years ago at our Shasta Lake Senior Hall we would sit across from each other while he painted the little houses that he loved to paint.
I then started to pick up the unpainted houses at yard sales and take them down and give them to him he would light up with a big smile looking each piece over to see what was next to be painted.
He always had a smile on his face never a bad word about anyone he was the special one at our hall I always greeted him first cause I got a big smile and a chuckle from him.
I will miss him so much it just seemed like it wasn't right if he wasn't at his seat and painting.He is another angel in heaven and his memories will not be forgotten.Rest in peace Richard hugs!
