Richard Weick Obituary

Richard R. Weick

Richard Weick passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife Minda by his side on October 7, 2010 after a valiant battle against cancer.

Richard was born in Long Prairie, MN on July 28, 1936.

He is survived by his wife Minda of 21 years, his three grown children, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren as well as two half sisters, their husbands, nieces and nephews.

Richard spent the early parts of his life in Wolf Point MT, Poplar, MT and Williston, ND, where his true love for horses and leather work became a part of his life. Richard served in the U.S. Navy and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves until retiring after 30 years of military service.

Richard worked for 2 years as a Police Officer for the S.F. International Airport before joining the San Francisco Police Department where he retired after 26 years of service with working in the mounted unit as his passion. His active participation in the International Police Association (IPA) gave him the opportunity to travel and make friends all over the globe.

Richard moved to Shasta County to follow his dream of becoming a Gentleman Rancher, just to find himself again working in law enforcement with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office until his death.

Richard was a man of few words, yet simple, kindhearted, honest, and true. Having a lot of friends was proof of his character. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, fishing, and gardening which he shared with his wife.

Richard will be buried at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA. on
October 18, 2010 at 12:45 P.M. followed by a memorial service at 2:30 at the
Shasta County Veterans Hall at 1605 Yuba St. in Redding, CA.

Donations in his memory in lieu of flowers may be made in his name to the
American Cancer Society, "Relay For Life of Redding" 754 Mangrove Ave. Chico, CA 95926.

First met Rich in 1980 when as a young rookie English Cop I visited San Francisco not knowing a soul. Rich hosted me in his home in Daly City and introduced to his work colleagues and pals &(Incl Doug Hosea). There followed many more visits over the years each side of the Atlantic and he and Minda stayed at my Batchelor pad in London after they got married. My wife Jackie and I have many happy memories of Rich and only regret we never made it out to Shasta after he retired. His memory lives on in this household with many police souvenirs we swapped and photographs of so many happy occasions.
He was true gentleman in every sense of the word and he used to rib me about my posh English accent "Sir Dickie" he would call me. Now my time has come to retire I regret I have left it too late to renew in person that friendship that started 31 years ago. Minda my sincere apologies for not being aware of Rich's passing. His last Email to me mentioned cancer but never the severity. My Heartfelt condolences albeit nearly a year late.
In friendship and with great respect for a great human being so generous and warm hearted. Servo per Amikeco.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Minda and the family. I met Rich many years ago, through the International Police Association and enjoyed each other's company at the annual conferences and often traded police memorabilia.

He was a true Law Enforcement Brother and he will be missed, within our ranks.

My dad was an awesome father whom I was very close to. I will miss all our fishing trips together, i'll forget the one fishing trip dad and I ventured on, this fishing trip top them all, we were on lake Sahasta fishing away when it started to pour rain like cats and dogs, but the trooper my dad was he wasn't going to give up he wanted that quality time with me so we fish on....lol I will always cherish my memories growing up with my dad we were very close, I loved spending time with him on the ranches, watch him ride in the rodeo's especaillay at the Cow Palace. My dad was always one to have these crazy one man horses I could never ride but then my dad got me this crazy little black pony, mean as all heck, but my love was with my dad and spending that quality time together. My dad was a true buckaroo, a classic cowboy, my dads saying was "Don't call him a cowboy until you've seen him ride".

I'm also so greateful my dad had Minda, myself, my husband Mike, his sister Patty and her husband Tom there the entire week until he passed (His loved ones were there til the end).

My husband Mike feels cheated he only got a short time to get to know my dad, but in that short time Mike realize what an awesome person he was "TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM".

I'm also greateful that my husband I married before my dad passed, dad was so happy and loved Mike, dad said I did good.

I love you dad, I miss you sooooo Much.

I also loved watching dad ride in the rodeo's especially at Cow Palace. Dad was a true buckaroo, a real classic cowboy.

Minda, we're very sorry to hear of the loss of Rich. He was a great guy and you were both great neighbors. Rich was very helpful when my horse injured herself many years ago. He would do anything to help anyone out. Your family is in our thoughts.
