Sandra Knight Obituary

Sandra (Letsinger) Knight

June 13, 1942 - January 4, 2011

Sandy Knight, 68, passed away early Tuesday morning after a courageous fight with cancer. She was surrounded in love by her family.

Sandy was born the second of four children to John and Pauline Letsinger in McCloud, CA. Her family moved to Redding when she was five. She graduated from Shasta High School in 1960 and went on to attend Sacramento State College before starting a family. She raised her three children in Redding. In 1982 she married Robert Knight who so lovingly cared for her in these last months. She worked as an administrative secretary for the Shasta Union High School District at Nova and Foothill High Schools retiring in 2006 after 25 years. Through her years at work, she made many close and lasting friendships.

Sandy is survived by her husband Robert Knight, her son Scot (Tracy) Evanhoe of Redding, daughters Lori (Jim) Fisher of Napa, and Lisa (Don) Morris of Mt. Shasta, grandchildren Tressa and Seth Evanhoe, Alexandra, Sara, and Emily Fisher, and MiaMichelle, Christian, and Cameron Morris, sisters Sherral (Chuck) Spafford, and Susie (Tiger) Michiels of Redding, stepchildren Robin Burris and Robert Knight Jr., and three step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother John Lawrence Letsinger.

Sandy's greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and traveling with her husband. In her journal she wrote "I love babies. I love holding my granddaughter's hand when we cross the street to get the mail". One of her more memorable trips with Bob was the two weeks they spent in Italy for their 25th anniversary.

Dear wife, grandmother, sister, friend, we love you so much and you will be greatly missed.

"I have called you by name and you are mine, you are precious in my sight, honored and I love you."
(From Isaiah 43)

As a teacher and counselor at Nova and Foothill High Schools I worked with Sandy for nine years. As Principal's secretary she was one of the first people I met at Nova when I interviewed for my job. Sandy always had a warm smile and a heartfelt greeting for everyone. She worked hard, did a wonderful job and always had time for students, parents and staff, greeting everyone so that they felt welcome. My condolences to Sandy's family for your loss. Like you, I have many cherished memories of Sandy, a person who enlightened so many of our lives.

Bob and family...I am so sorry to hear about Sandy passing away. I didn't know until I read today's paper and am totally shocked and saddened by the news. She was such a wonderful person that I enjoyed talking to during my time at the School District and Foothill. Prayers and thoughts go out to you all. Unfortunately, I will be out of town this weekend and won't be able to attend her Celebration of Life.
