Travis Mann Obituary

Travis David Mann, 32, passed away at his family home in Lakehead in the early hours of November 13, 2010. Travis was born in Boulder, CO. He attended Canyon Elementary and Junior High School in Lakehead, Central Valley High School and UC San Diego. He loved the outdoors, everything basketball, playing guitar and writing music, and, especially, his family and friends.
Travis was diagnosed with late stage lung cancer in early August and he remained positive and optimistic throughout his illness, never once complaining and consistently lending comfort and strength to his family, friends, and the many medical people who helped him throughout the last months of his life. He retained his infectious smile and shared his unique sense of humor until the very end.
Travis was the son of Ed and Barbara Mann of Lakehead, and the brother of Summer (Bobby) Vaziralli of Clovis, and Coulter (Brittany) Mann of Brookings, OR. He was the proud uncle of his beloved baby nephew, Tavin Vaziralli, and the grandson of Glennie Sleight of Lakehead. He had a very close extended family, including his aunt Evelyn Mann-Wilder of Yreka and her children and their families. Travis was the great-nephew of Michaeline Dever of Redding and Patricia Gudowski of Vancouver, WA. Travis' cherished girlfriend was Savannah Holman of San Ramon.
Over the past few months Travis received amazing medical care, both locally and through the UCSF medical center in San Francisco. During the course of that treatment and his hospitalizations he made ongoing friends and created special relationships with many doctors, nurses and staff who emailed, wrote, called and kept in touch with Travis long after he had left their care, sharing that they found his courage, strength and character inspiring. His family wishes to thank these many strangers and friends whose great efforts and kindnesses we can never hope to repay, with special thanks for the kindness and generosity of local doctors Dr. Ron Chambers and Dr. Raphael Lupercio and the staff of Mercy Hospital, Redding, and of Mercy Hospice, Mt. Shasta.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Mercy Hospice, 914 Pine Street, Mt. Shasta, CA 96067.
A celebration of life for Travis will be held at Tierra Oaks in Redding on Saturday, November 20th at 11:30 a.m.

I have been holding a loving space for you all in my heart these past few weeks and continue to do so during this difficult time. I am honored to have known Travis. He had the quality of genuinely caring for the people around him that I know he got from his family. I always looked forward to spending time with him when he came to visit your Steph. We both liked running and I have a good memory of him effortlessly running up the steepest hill in Ventura, and then congratulating me when I finally made it to the top. Love to you all!

Dear Ed, Barbara, Summer, Coulter, and family, You guys have been a part of our family for a very long time with our kids in the same class and now watching Chance and Matt grow up together. You are a very special family and we cherish you all very much. We were very saddened and surprised to hear about Travis. Things just don't make sense sometimes. The comfort we can know is that God must have a bigger and very important plan for such a wonderful and exceptional young man to take him so soon. We are here for you in whatever you need and our prayers and thoughts are with you, especially today. With all our love, Dan, Ilene, Matt, and Jenny Emry

Dear Ed, Barbara, Summer, Bobby, Colter and Brittany,
There are no words to express how sad we are that you have lost Travis, your son and brother. He will live on always in your memories and that of your friends and family. We didn't really know Travis well, but we know he was a wonderful, bright, funny young man who enjoyed and returned the love of a very close-knit and caring family. Your strength and love as a family helped build Travis into a remarkable person. Having almost lost our own son earlier this year, we had contemplated life without him, and the thought was very hard to bear. Our hearts go out to you.

My heart is deeply saddened by this. I will try to explain.
Travis is an amazing example of beauty personified inside an out. His compassion, understanding and kindness would bring you in and you would come out a better person. Travis was the person you could trust with all your heart. He was all about making real, true connections. I am lucky to have met him. I am terribly, terribly saddened by this and my heart goes out to his closest family and friends.

My heart goes out to Ed and Barbara for the loss of a truely special person. Having a child of my own I can't imagine the thought of out living him someday. Growing up playing basketball against and then with Travis I came to know how competitive of a person he was but I also quickly came to the realization of what a great teammate and friend he became to me. He was the type of guy that really would give you the shirt off his back and do anything for you. He loved his family very much and I remember how much pride he took in being such a great example and protector to Summer and Colter. He will be missed and I will never forget him. May God bless you Travis and your family!

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I played basketball with Travis about 17 years ago on a YMCA Saturday night league, and from what I remember, he was an awesome guy. I enjoyed playing with him, and he seemed to always work hard and have a positive attitude. It sounds like those character traits stayed with him throughout his life. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
