Gemma Cerro Tasin

1920 - 2014

Gemma Cerro Tasin passed away on August 26, 2014, she was 94 years old.

Born in Redding, January 12, 1920, Gemma was the first daughter for Giuseppe and Giuseppina Cerro, immigrants from Savona Italy to Kennett and then Redding.

She was preceded in death by her husband Giacomo Tasin, brothers: Louie, Pete, and Charlie Cerro, sister Amelia Cerro Weber and nephew Richard "Dick" Cerro.

Gemma grew up on Radio Lane working on her family's ranch. She helped tend crops alongside her siblings and cousins; the work was long and hard, but together earned two families a living. She was a 1938 graduate of Shasta Union High School, and wed Giacomo Tasin on April 22, 1951 at Saints Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco. They traveled regularly to family in Italy, yet San Francisco would always be the city where they were most comfortable. Gemma was an outstanding cook, baker, and seamstress she also loved to crochet. She was a long time member of St. Vincent's de Paul Catholic Church, Green Street, San Francisco.

Gemma was known to her nieces and nephews as "La la Gemma" . La la Gemma will be greatly missed as we continue to hold fond memories of her and her little 4' 9" frame, and her humor in our hearts.

Gemma is survived by her first cousins: Mary, Aurora and Lena. Nieces: Maria, Delores, Linda, Marie, Regina, Beverly and Jeanette. Nephews: Mike, John, Gary, Rex, Pat, Paul and Jack, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Her Rosary will be held Wednesday September 3, 2014, Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel 2655 Eureka Way, at 7:30pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10 am Thursday September 4, 2014 at Gemma's first parish, Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 2040 Walnut Ave. Pallbearers will be her nephews: John, Rex and Pat Cerro, Paul Jack and Ryan Weber.

Gemma will be laid to rest beside her late husband Giacomo, neighboring her brothers and sister at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery on Eureka Way following services.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Church 2320 Green St., San Francisco, CA 94123.
