Rodney (Ron) Charles Dickey, born June 30, 1944 died peacefully in his sleep on June 16, 2013 at the age of 68 after a long struggle with prostate cancer.
Ron was born in Minnesota and grew up in Iowa until his family moved to California when he was fifteen. He graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in business and served two years in the army as a sergeant E5 stationed in Korea. He married the love of his life, Kathy, in 1969 and the couple remained inseparable for 43 years until his death. Ron is survived by his wife, two daughters, Juliet and Nell, son-in-law Matt, and five grandchildren, Noah, Tariq, Zaynab, Ali, and Maggie, as well as his brothers, Bob and Dave. His parents, Irene and Earl Dickey, preceded him in death.
Ron and Kathy bought the Damburger restaurant in Redding in 1979. Ron ran it lovingly until 2005 when he retired to move to Ashland, Oregon and left the business in the capable hands of his daughter, Julie and manager, Marla.
Ron was a lover of the outdoors, a devoted husband, dad and grandpa. He is most remembered for his ever-present smile, his bright spirit and his caring, nurturing attitude toward others. He will be dearly missed.
A celebratory memorial is planned for June 30th in Lithia Park in Ashland at 10 AM in the lawn area below the upper duck pond.
