Sylvia and family, I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing as I watched the 2014 NASCAR banquet tonight on TV and saw his name listed.
I just remember all the good times we had traveling to and attending all those races for many years. He was always the perfect sponsor's spokesman and constant professional.
Mostly I remember his great laugh and wonderful smile. May he rest in peace.

Shasta County wouldn't be what it is today if not for the Schmitt family. Bill brought jobs to so many who desparetly needed work through the years. Thank you for making Shasta County a better place to live and play. Bill will be sincerely missed but his legacy lives on.

In 1962 my father was injured in a logging accident, he lost his left leg and was fitted with a wooden leg. In the years that passed he had a hard time holding jobs. But that all changed when Bill Schmitt hired my father to drive logging truck for Schmitt logging. Bill took a chance on a one legged logging truck driver when no one else would. I mean can you imagine hiring a man with a wooden leg to drive a logging truck? Thats just the kind of man Bill was. I am grateful that Bill took that chance because it allowed my father to feed 7 children and pay his mortgage. Bill Schmitt, may you rest in God's arms, you were a good man and this peg legged loggers son is thankful for giving my father a way to do what a man wants to do. Sylvia and family I am indeed sorry for your loss.

Dear Sylvia and family,
Just thinking ofl the many things we did together over the years.
Racing all over the country, riding dune buggys at Thanksgiving in the desert, making asphalt, and in general, sharing some wonderful times.
You have a strong, loving family and it won't be long before the sadness is replaced by the the memories of everything that was Bill.
I share your loss.
My warmest condolences, Lyle
