Peggy, a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, nurse, and massage therapist has died after a 6 month illness with brain cancer. She was born in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica and then moved to Cuba at age six. While growing up she danced ballet professionally and left Cuba just before Castro assumed command. She attended Swarthmore College where she met her husband and then earned an RN from Johns Hopkins University. In 1960 she was married and began work as a public health nurse on the streets of Philadelphia. After the birth of 3 children and 3 years as an Army wife, the family moved to Redlands in 1969. Peggy worked for many years as a school nurse in the Colton School District and then changed her career to become a massage therapist. She worked at International Skin and Body Care for over twenty years where she loved the clients and staff and greatly appreciated the friendships she made and the supportive work environment. She was active in the Inland Valley Quaker Friends Meeting, volunteered with Family Services, Friends Outside, and Step-by-Step. She was aided by the fact she was bilingual. With her husband she traveled much of the world on freighter ships and loved the beach with quiet past times of cryptic crosswords, reading and gardening. She found a lifetime of personal peace in a practice of Tai Chi, yoga, and meditation and became a passionate advocate for alternative and holistic medicine. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine smile and hugs will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gordon, her daughters, Tracy Mack and Laurie McNaughton, and eight grandchildren. Her son Ron died just 3 week prior to her. She would be honored by a donation to the charity of your choice with her favorites being Planned Parenthood and Doctors Without Borders. A memorial will be held on August 6th at 5:30 PM at 37201 Oak Glen Rd. in Yucaipa to celebrate her life.
