Claus R. Pixley

Claus R. Pixley, age 94, passed away peacefully at The Breakers of Long Beach in California, on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Claus was born on April 27, 1918 in Northwood, Iowa to Herbert and Effie Pixley. In Iowa he was actively involved in music and dance. Claus moved to Long Beach, California in the 1940's where he was Captain of The Sky Room. The Hilton now called The Breakers of Long Beach, where The Sky Room is located; is where he spent his final days. In the 1960's, Claus opened and ran a men's clothing store in Downtown Long Beach. Claus will be laid to rest beside his parents and brother in Sunset Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa. Claus loved to dance, travel, and gamble. Claus had an incredible gift for remembering everything. I met Claus in Long Beach 50+ years ago and we became instant friends. Although I moved back to PA 22 years ago, we had remained in contact all these years. I will miss him.

I met Claus one time when he visited Northwood and heard many stories about him from my mother. He did what we all should do, live life to the fullest.
