Paul Hammond Obituary

HAMMOND, Paul Theodore

Paul Theodore Hammond, 65 years old of San Marino, California passed away with his family surrounding him on the morning of March 6, 2013. Ted Hammond was born on May 2, 1947 in Pasadena. He grew up
in San Marino, California and attended Carver Elementary, Huntington Junior High and San Marino High School. He attended DePauw University and graduated Cum Laude with his BS from USC. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate Degree from USC Law Center.

Ted Hammond's life was truly lived to the very fullest. He had a zest for life that was fulfilled in his love for family, friends, and the practice of law. Teddy's first love was his strongest and longest lasting. He fell in love at 15 with his wife and best friend Karen Marculescu. After receiving his law degree from USC, he focused his passion for law in the field of medical malpractice both as a trial attorney and most recently as an arbiter. He loved his work and taught us all to love and have passion in everything we do.

His ultimate love was his family and friends. He is survived by his sister Sharon Boultinghouse, three children Rob Hammond (Nicole Bieggar), Courtney Negrevski (Eric Negrevski) and James Hammond (Sarah Hamill) and grandchildren Lauren, Colby, Alex, Nick, and Ryan. He taught us to live, love and laugh. Ted never held back his infectious smile making everyone in the room, on the beach, or on the golf course feel all of his love. Teddy always said, "Memories are made." They are made on great trips, around the fire pit, on the boat or simply when great friends surround you.

How fortunate we all are to have known and loved such a special man who, in too short a life, lived more fully, loved more deeply and laughed more often than anyone we have ever known. We are so much richer for having Teddy in our lives. He will continue to be a model for us all, and we will make him proud of the lessons we learned from him.

We will dance in the rain and dance wherever and whenever knowing in our hearts that's what Teddy would want us all to do.

Ted enjoyed his involvement in the community and was a member of Annandale Country Club, Fourth of July Yacht Club, Pasadena Breakfast Forum, Huntington H.E.A.R.T., The Twilight Club and many others. He loved giving back to society and participating actively in each of these organizations.

In Lieu of flowers please give the gift of life in memory of Ted Hammond to USC Cardio Vascular Thoracic Institute; 1975 Zonal Ave. KAM 300 Los Angeles, CA 90089 Phone: (323) 442-1084 or The Pasadena Guild of Children's Hospital P.O. BOX 51101 Pasadena, CA 91115.

Mr. Hammond,

Thank you for the great weekends in Catalina and Long Beach. I have always remembered shark fishing, diving in the kelp forrest, and abalone hunting with you and Robbie. I can only hope my children's friends have such warm and fond memories of me one day. A very tall aspiration indeed!

Thanks for being such a good father to those of us not in the family.

So sorry to hear of Ted's passing. My memories of Ted are from the distant past, at the Delt house at USC. He could always brighten a day and liven up any social occasion - an attitude he appears to have carried through life. He touched a lot of people.

Ted and I were inseparable during high school in San Marino. We played sports together, served on the SMHS Student Council together and just "hung out" almost every day of those wonderful four years! I've never had a better or a more loyal friend. I recall one Spring break from school when he and I spent the entire week rebuilding the motor in an old "Woody" he'd purchased so we could spend the summer driving around the Southern California coastline just being beach bums and loving every minute of it. What a summer we had! All of my fond high school memories, without exception, include memories of Ted. Although I haven't seen him for quite a while, the news of his passing has given me pause to reflect on our friendship and intensely feel his absence. During those memorable years, Karen was right there with us all of the time. Having a chance to see her and Ted grow closer and closer even way back then was a neat experience. Karen, know that although I can't attend the Service tomorrow, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know the fond memories of those high school years will always put a smile on our faces.

I have many fond memories of growing up with Ted and Karen in San Marino. I remember one summer in junior high when our family and the Hammonds both happened to be in Mexico City. The Hammonds came by to visit us at our hotel after being drenched at the bullfights. Ted, of course, thought that it was quite fun. I visited Ted at USC during college and then reconnected with Ted and Karen at a high school reunion in Newport Beach. When my son, Max, was killed in a car accident Ted called me up and talked on the phone for a half an hour. That's the kind of person Ted was. I will miss him.

From the first day I met Ted at USC and then as his roommate at the Delt House I knew he was something special!
I never remember one single time with Teddy that wasn't filled with fun and laughter. From "Tommy Tio Harcor" to renowned jurist, I will miss a great guy.

Ciao Teddy from Wally Dozer.
