85, affectionately known as Buster, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Honolulu, HI, he attended St. Louis College in Honolulu. He truly lived the Hawaiian life, surfing and swimming at the beach participating in family luaus and listening to Hawaiian musicians in Waikiki. His first job was transporting diamonds across Honolulu for his uncles earning .25 cents. He met and married Lorna Beers in 1948 and came to Redlands, CA in search of work.
His early work included smudging the orange groves and car mechanic at Harry & Lloyds Oldsmobile in Redlands. In May of 1951 he joined Redlands Police Department where he served 30 years, retiring in Sept. of 1980. During his career he graduated from the FBI Academy as a straight A student and received the J. Edgar Hoover Award for Academic Excellence and was a graduate of the University of Redlands. He was eventually promoted to Captain of the Investigation Division and was instrumental in creating the Narcotics Division. He was honored as Man of the Year by the Veteran's Association in 1970-71. He was a recognized expert in the field and in demand as a speaker. He taught Administration of Justice at Crafton Hills College, was a Terrier Benchwarmer, member and past President of the Redlands Optimist Club and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #583. He taught swimming at the YMCA and enjoyed working with youth.
After the death of his first wife, he found love again and married Chiquita V. Keliipuleole also from Hawaii. They made their home in Redlands where he lived until his passing. Edward is survived by his wife of 25 years Chiquita; his brother Malcolm Olmos (Jackie); his four children Sharon Morgan, Linda Garfield-Garcia (Chris), Terry Stewart and Steven Olmos (Marie); five step-children Stuart Kimo, Alan Kalani (LeAnne), Jon Keoki, Carl Kekoa Keliipuleole (Jana, and Liane Mahealani Farris (Terry); 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and predeceased by his grandson Robby Morgan.
Visitation Services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m.; Rosary recitation at 7 p.m. at Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Ave, Redlands. Mass will be celebrated Wed., Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at The Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 115 West Olive Ave., Redlands; interment immediately following at Hillside Cemetery, Redlands.
