LEON FRANK MOBURG
World-renowned artist, beloved professor, friend and uncle, Leon Frank Moburg, of Redlands, CA passed away in his home on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the age of 86. Leon was born April 8, 1927, in Monmouth, IL to Ernest and Edna (Swanson) Moburg. After graduating from Monmouth High School, Leon served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific Theater from 1945-47. Following the war, Leon attended Monmouth College and graduated Cum Laude from Wesleyan College of Fine Arts, Macon, GA. He received an M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and completed additional doctoral level coursework at Ohio State University. Leon served as professor of ceramics at University of Redlands, from 1959-1992. He was known for his originality in glaze and form. "Moe" cherished his students who often became lifelong friends and lived life to the fullest. His work was featured in one-man shows around the world. He loved being Swedish and was never without a tale to tell of exotic world travels and friends he loved. Leon is survived by his brother John Moburg (Marge), of Monmouth, IL, many cousins, nephews, nieces, and dear friends. Leon will live on for family and friends in his one-of-a-kind creations. Family and close friends will be celebrating his life privately on April 27.
