Marie passed after heart failure into the arms of our Lord the day after her 90th birthday October 19, 2013. She passed peacefully in the loving arms of her son. Marie was born to the late Jerry and Elizabeth Jircik on Oct. 18, 1923. She graduated from Rosenberg High School in 1941 and earned her RN at St. Joseph's School of Nursing of Houston in 1944. She received her BA from Sacred Heart Dominican College in Houston and completed her education with a master's in nursing at USC. Marie is survived by her son, Mark Strahan, MD of Reno, NV, sisters, Martha Ernst (twin) of Oceanside, CA and Betty Coon of Pasadena, TX. Marie worked at the Long Beach, California VA as a registered nurse where she met her husband, George Strahan, a WWII Navy veteran. She worked for 40 years in the Long Beach School District as a school nurse and also served as president of the Long Beach School Nurses Assn. Marie was very active in the Catholic Church and attended daily masses for over 20 years. She recorded 100s of masses for veterans who were unable to attend. She was an avid golfer and recorded a hole in one at Recreation Golf Course in Long Beach. Her burial service is to be held at All Souls Cemetery on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at noon.
