Dr. Reyes Rachel Madrigal
The mother of Tony, Marian, Paul, and Joseph, died on Friday, April 19th at 6:00 a.m. Besides her 4 children, she is survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was 80 years old.
Rachel was born January 6th, 1933, in Slaton, Texas the second of eight children in the Rios family. The Rios family moved to California in 1935.
As a single mother of four children, she began and completed her teaching credential, administrative credential, and finally concluded her schooling with a doctorate degree from Claremont College. Her accomplishments include teaching, elementary school principal, Assistant Superintendent of Education and ended her career as a professor at Mt. San Antonio Community College.
Dr.Madrigal was a supportive and proud mother who encouraged her children with enthusiasm as they grew up. She was a hard working woman who set goals for herself and left a legacy of pride and accomplishments.
Dr. Madrigal was an active, independent woman who enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, and staying active. She lived in her own home in Pomona until her death on April 19th, 2013. Dr. Madrigal was active in her church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Her absence will be felt deeply among those whose lives she touched. Services will be held at 9:30a.m. on April 24th, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pomona.
