David Lou Billings
84 of Upland died April 19, 2014 at home. He was born February 28, 1930, in Washington Indiana and was one of 12 children to Mel and Josie Billings. He came to California in 1961 and resided in Upland for 51 years. He worked as a mechanic for 55 years and retired from General Dynamics in 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and served duty in W. Germany. David attended Foothill Bible Church where he had many friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, and would often be seen on his John Deere riding mower or tending to his gardens and flowers. He loved nature and animals and was fond of hand feeding the Blue Jays in his back yard. He will be remembered for his humor, bright smile and his sharing of stories of the old days on the farm.
David is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty, his daughter Carmen Billings Grey of Claremont, Linda Alexander of Rancho Cucamonga, his son, Karl Billings of Claremont, his sister, Hazel Wood of Florida, grandchildren, Bryan Alexander, Jeff Alexander, Alexis Billings and Brandon Billings and great-grandson, Bryce Alexander, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Rose Billings of 26 years and his eldest son, James Billings.
Friends may attend a viewing on Sunday, April 27 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Draper Mortuary in Ontario. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Foothill Bible Church and a graveside service at Bellevue Memorial Park to follow at 2:30 pm.
