Greg Horton
(1951-2016)

Greg, known to many as "Gunns", age 65, of Redlands passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Redlands Community Hospital. Born on January 1, 1951 in San Bernardino to Albert and Francis Horton. Greg was a Redlands H.S. alum of '69 and was awarded many accolades under Coach Womack. After graduation, he received a football scholarship to the University of Colorado-Boulder. During his collegiate years at CU Greg played in the East-West Shrine Game, Bluebonnet Bowl (1971), Gator Bowl (1972), Senior Bowl, and achieved the award of "All-Big Eight" offensive tackle during his senior year. From there Greg was drafted into the National Football League (NFL) where he played for the Los Angeles Rams (1974-1978, 1980), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1978-1979), and the USFL Boston Breakers/New Orleans Breaker (1982-1984). Greg was a loving husband, dad, "Papa" to his grandbabies, and friend to all. Next to the love for his family he enjoyed studying history, working in his yard, watching classic movies, and a good work out, but is best known for telling a good story. Greg is survived by his wife Shirley of 39 years, children, Shane (Lisa) Merritt of Hay Springs, NE, Mackensey (Phillip) Farmer and Meredith (Michael) Day of Redlands. Grandchildren include Jordan and Tyler Merritt, Ashlyn, Raegan and Reese Farmer and Kate and Paige Day. Siblings include Brenda Kerwood of Kittery Point, ME, Denise Horton and Bruce "Kevin" Horton of Santa Fe, NM.
There will be visitation on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 5pm-7pm at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Avenue, Redlands, CA 92373. Memorial service is open to all family and friends on Saturday, November 19, 2016, 10:00am also at Emmerson Bartlett, Redlands.
