Lechler, Horst Leonard
Horst Leonard Lechler, 74, of Sierra Madre, CA died November 29th with his wife and children by his side.
He was born on November 12, 1939 in Wuppertal, Germany to Anne and Leonard Lechler. He is survived by his wife Ginny, daughters, Kristine Supple (Brian), Kathleen Hopper (Chad), son Mark Lechler, Stepdaughter, Robin Hooge (Paul), and
grandsons Cole, Chandler, Carter, and Hayden Supple.
Horst lived in Germany until age 19 when he began a new adventure in the United States. He received his AA degree from Pasadena City College then attended USC School of Business where he graduated with a BA and MBA. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in
Germany. After serving in the Army he became a naturalized US citizen in April, 1967.
His life's work was in the insurance industry where he worked for Houston Insurance and then for 37 years as Partner and eventual President of Anderson and Murison Insurance Brokerage Firm.
He was highly involved in business and charitable organizations. He served as past President or Director for the NAPSLO Education Foundation, American Association of Managing General Agents, California Surplus Line Association, San Gabriel Chapter of CPCU, and the Pasadena Kiwanis Club.
Horst was an accomplished yachtsman. He served as Commodore of the Pacific Single Handed Sailing Association and long-standing member of Fleet One Catalina Yacht Association where he served as Fleet Captain. He loved traveling around the world, sailing to Catalina Island, and spending time with his four grandsons who always made him proud.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, 10:30 A.M., at Our Savior Lutheran Church. 512 W. Duarte Rd., Arcadia, CA 91007. Reception to follow at The Valley Hunt Club, 520 S. Orange Grove Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91105
