"Missed but never forgotten"

Joan was born and raised in Huntington Park, California. She attended Huntington Park High School. She graduated from Antioch College in Los Angeles, California. Joan earned her Master's Degree in Psychology, and for many years was a successful licensed therapist practicing in Long Beach. Joan was a devoted and determined advocate for women's rights. She worked tireslessly with women who were victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. She founded and later became the Director of Sexual Abuse Crisis Alliance (SACA), the Long Beach Chapter. Joan was also the President and chief fundraiser for the Long Beach Rape Hotline Crisis Center. She volunteered there often. Joan loved the ocean, and would frequently spend time in Cambria. She was a die-hard Boston Red Sox and Miami Dolphins Fan and enjoyed watching Survivor on television. Joan is survived by her loving and devoted son, Brian Ballesio; her grandson, Branden Mudge; her aunt, Barbara Shell. Joan will never be far from our thoughts and she will remain in our hearts forever. Please sign the guest book at
