Robert Earl Dunning
1925-2013
Robert E. Dunning was born September 16, 1925 in Los Angeles, California to Earl and Martha Dunning, and passed away peacefully on January 11, 2013.
Robert was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy on the USS Bennington from 1943-1946. After a tour in the Pacific, he returned home to California and married Peggy Lee Williams. They had one child, Susan Carol Dunning.
After being discharged from the Navy, Robert held many jobs but returned to working on a citrus grove and plastering business in Upland, California until 1965 when the grove was sold. He then work for C&M Machine Shop and Jade Machine Shop until 1968. He then went to work for the City of Montclair in the parks department where his work and expertise on the grove made for an easy transition. Robert had a knack for fixing almost anything and getting it to work. He retired from the City of Montclair in 1980.
He belonged to the Upland-Mt. Baldy Masonic Lodge #419 for a long period of time.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Peggy, who passed away June 26, 2012, and his daughter, Susie, who passed away July 22, 1989.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Wendy L. Rullman of Solvang, a grandson, David R. Milakovich of Adelanto; a great- grandson, Zachary N. Monroe of Great Falls, Montana; a sister, Barbara Exe of Thornton, Colorado, a twin sister, Roberta Foster of Huffman, Texas; four nieces and a nephew.
Robert always had helpful advice, a rhyme, or a joke to tell and is missed considerably by his friends and family. No services were held for Mr. & Mrs. Dunning per their wishes.
