WHITE, Roy. E.
Roy E. White died on July 14, 2013, in Seal Beach after a long illness. He was born to Harry and Eryl White on March 25, 1927, in North Chicago, Illinois. A child prodigy flutist, he played with the Chicago Symphony while in his teens. In 1945, after graduating from Libertyville High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served briefly during WWII and briefly during the Korean War. He moved to Los Angeles in 1946, and married Virginia Young in 1947. They moved to Pico in 1949 and had three children. They moved to Whittier in 1955. After their divorce, Roy married Doris Peckham in 1963. He worked for Pacific Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1983.
Roy and Doris traveled extensively, mostly in Europe. They were both active musicians with the Rio Hondo Symphony for many years, and more recently with the La Mirada Symphony, where Roy was the assistant conductor. Roy was also a member of the Whittier Elks Lodge #1258 for over 20 years. He served as the lodge organist.
Roy was preceded by his loving wife, Doris, and his sister, Rae Rickard. He is survived by daughter Rae White of North Hills; daughter Bonnie Becker (Gary) of Moorpark; son Gary White (Karen) of Simi Valley; stepdaughter Sally Curry (Larry) of Long Beach; stepdaughter Patty Beckman of Provo, Utah; stepson John Peckham (Tina) of Ketchikan, Alaska; plus many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Viewing to be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. at Rose Hills Mortuary Stateroom, Gate #1. Memorial service to be held Thursday, July 25, 2013, 1:00 p.m., at Rose Hills Memorial Chapel, Gate #1, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier. Interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
