William Arthur Rogers Obituary
William Arthur Rogers

November 21, 1926 - January 25, 2014

Husband - Father - Grandfather - Best Friend

William Arthur Rogers, fondly referred to as "Bill, Willie or Papa" to friends and loved ones was born in Long Beach, California on November 21, 1926. His parents, Emol and William Sr. raised him and older sister Betty close to the beach and ran their store, Rogers Market, in Belmont Shore. Bill lived a full and adventurous life which included enlisting in the army, attending USC and Oregon State University, a 38 year career at Rockwell as an Engineer on the launch pads for Apollo 11 and Apollo 13, which aided in the US getting to the moon! He was a man of the ocean and spent his younger years surfing the Peninsula before the break water, sailing his boat the "BBC" with his wife Betty Lou, and going on many a fishing trip to Alaska. He was a member of the Long Beach Yacht Club for 52 years and spent much of his time there ringing the bell on "Wet Wednesdays" while lifelong best friend and partner in crime, Ronald Dean, fired the shot gun as the boats passed the finish line. He also became a world traveler after retirement and greatly enjoyed exploring new lands with his LBYC pals. He leaves behind his daughter Carolee and granddaughters, Jenilee and Andrea who will forever remember him as the light of their lives, a never ending source of guidance and a better role model than anyone could ever ask for. He will be missed every day, but we know he and his wife Betty Lou are looking over us and warming our hearts for eternity.

A celebration of life will be held at the Long Beach Yacht Club on March 22, 2014 from 2pm - 5pm. All are welcome to raise a toast to the amazing Mr. Rogers! Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits.
