Ruby Sena Norlin - Westby

Longtime Long Beach resident, Ruby Sena Norlin - Westby went peacefully to be with her Lord on October 5, 2012. Born on August 27, 1912 to Thomas and Selma Jacobson in Arena, North Dakota, a small town near Bismarck. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ben; and two sisters, Marie and Hazel. Ruby married Sexton Eric Norlin and raised 3 sons, Dennis of Palm Desert, CA (Martha), Buck of Auburn CA (Debby) and Tommy of Scituate, MA (Mary Lou). They divorced in 1940 after she transferred to Long Beach working for the Navy as an Accountant. She later married Waldemer (Wally) Westby who preceded her in death. All three of her sons graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, CA. Besides her sons, she is survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Ruby was chief accountant for David Tallichet, owner of Specialty Restaurants. Ruby also spent 35 years working with the acolytes at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Long Beach. Ruby was very proud of her work there. She was also a "Paper Mom" for the Press Telegram. She would distribute bundles of newspapers to the paper boys who would deliver them door to door. Ruby celebrated her 100th birthday August 25th at The Reef Restaurant surrounded by over 100 members of her family and friends. She had excellent health into her 90's and drove until she turned 93. Ruby broke her hip in 2008 and resided at Marlora Manor in Long Beach for her final 4 years. She kept her home of 72 years and was able to spend two days a week there until her death, with the help of her long time caregiver, Helen America. A public viewing will be held, Tuesday, October 9 from 4 P.M. - 8 P.M. at McKenzie Mortuary at 3843 East Anaheim St. in Long Beach. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, October 10, 11 A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 370 Junipero Ave. in Long Beach. Graveside service will follow at Green Hills Cemetery, 27501 South Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes.
