MARIE ELLEN MAPES
(BUTTITTA) (TYSON)

Marie Mapes, a long time resident of the San Fernando Valley, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013 at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Mary and Richard Buttitta of Canoga Park, CA.

Marie was born on October 2, 1922 on her grandmother's farm in Cumberland, OH and resided in Martins Ferry, OH where she and her first husband owned the local record shop. She moved for a short time to Penn Hills, PA outside of Pittsburgh before relocating in 1965 to Southern California. She was the matriarch of her family and took great pride in her Italian heritage. She had a heart of gold and one could not enter her house without being asked whether they wanted something to eat.

She was an active member of St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where she participated in Mission Circle, Angels, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Professionally, she worked for over 43 years in the cafeteria at Rocketdyne/Boeing in Canoga Park, CA.

Marie was preceded in death by her first husband William Tyson who passed away in 1986, her second husband Barney Mapes who passed away in 2009, and one grandson Michael Donatelli who died on February 10, 2013 in a helicopter accident in Acton, CA. She is survived by her son, Mark Tyson and daughter-in-law Diana (Van Pelt) of Winnetka, CA; daughter, Nancy (Tyson) Fricke and son-in-law Stuart of Anaheim, CA; daughter, Mary Ann (Tyson) Donatelli and son-in-law William of Indiana, PA; sister, Shirley (Buttitta) Dougherty of Reseda, CA; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Marie's memorial will be held on March 9, 2013, 1:30 p.m., at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Her final resting place will be the San Fernando Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 19808 Cantlay St, Winnetka, CA (818) 341-6616.
