SYLVIA TERIFAY Obituary
SYLVIA SCOTT TERIFAY
Of Redlands, CA, surrounded by her family, passed to her eternal reward on June 4, 2016, joining her parents, her brothers and sisters, and her children. The last of ten children of James and Anna Scott, Sylvia was born February 8, 1931 in Fairfield, CT. She graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School where she was very active in many extracurricular activities including cheerleading squads for the school athletic teams and school talent shows. Sylvia met Bob, the love of her life, in 1948 and they married in 1951. Debra and David arrived in 1952 and 1954, respectively. In 1956, Sylvia and Bob began their travel odyssey, following Bob's professional career, moving to Los Angeles, CA, later returning to Connecticut. They welcomed Robb in 1959 and moved back to California in 1962. They discovered Redlands in 1964 and have resided there ever since. Jeff joined the family in 1965. Sylvia's passion was her family. All the while that the children were in school, she was a stay-at-home Mom. She was also deeply involved in their school activities including PTA (elementary, middle, and high schools), member of the Redlands PTA Council, Girl Scout leader, and Cub Scout leader. Sylvia also volunteered with the American Red Cross Board, Meals-on-Wheels, Feeding the Hungry, and spent ten years as director of the San Bernardino Right-to-Life center. She was a Eucharistic Minister, Marriage Preparation Counselor, and a member of the Stephen Ministry at Sacred Heart Church (Holy Name of Jesus) of Redlands. When the children were grown, Sylvia attended Saddleback College to pursue a career in Mentally Gifted Minors for the Mission Viejo schools. When immersed in the student teaching program, Sylvia realized that 'This is not for me'. Sylvia then entered the business world, doing what she did well - advertising and marketing. She managed the local office in the Inland Empire of a newspaper specifically targeted for the military until the local bases closed and she retired. For the past 15 years, Sylvia has been a volunteer at Redlands Community Hospital. She is predeceased by her children Debbie, Robb, and Jeff. She is also predeceased by her siblings; Gertrude, James, Cynthia, Dorothea, Victor, Vincent, Millicent, Audrey and Stanley. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob, son David (Linda), and granddaughters Stephanie Terifay-Bediee (Francois) and Lindsay Terifay. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at 10:00 am at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 115 W. Olive Ave., Redlands.
