Berniece Lanore Baucom, 90, Stanton, passed to her heavenly home Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Berniece was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Mills County near Emerson, the daughter of Ruel Dupree and Margaret Ione (Huntsman) Schick. She was the oldest of four children. She was raised in the Emerson area and graduated from Wales Lincoln High School.
Berniece was united in marriage to Ray Harry Baucom on June 18, 1946, in Troy, Kan. To this union were born five children, Linda, Jean, Rosa, Carla, and Steve. They lived on farms in southwest Iowa all of their lives and were long-time members of Red Oak Eagles Lodge. Over the years, Berniece cooked in many cafes and restaurants, waitressed, cleaned homes, worked at Glenwood State School and was a home health aide. She was a very compassionate, loving, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt who loved all of her family and everyone she met. She loved life, cooking, country music, dancing, camping, gardening, flowers, Bingo, sewing, and playing cards. Her greatest legacy is her love of life, her positive attitude, her bread pudding, her banana bread, and her cinnamon rolls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 65 years, Ray Baucom; brother-in-law, Dale Ackerman; son-in-law, Ronnie Neemann; great-grandchildren, Abby Elizabeth Reeve, Jordan Cheyenne Palmer, Brooklyn Baucom, and Skylar Palmer.
Survivors include her sister, Deloris Ackerman of Council Bluffs; brothers, William "Kent" Schick and wife Evelyn of Red Oak, and Blaine "Bud" Schick of Emerson; children, Linda Davis and husband Richard of Shenandoah, Jean Combs and husband Jim of Pacific Junction, Rosa Lee Palmer and husband Eugene of Red Oak, Carla Neemann of Shenandoah, and Steve Baucom and wife Donella of Emerson; 29 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Emerson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Eagles Lodge or the .
