Gilbert Ernest Lindberg, 87, Villisca, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018, at his home. Gilbert was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Council Bluffs, the son of Elmer Ernest and Ida (White) Lindberg. He was raised near Villisca on the family farm and attended Villisca Schools. Over the years, Gilbert worked various jobs as a farm hand and was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Betty Lee on Oct. 1, 1950. They were blessed with three children, David, Danny, and Linda.
Besides being a devoted husband and father, Gilbert was a painter and did repair work throughout his life as well as farming, which was his passion. He spent over 60 years delivering the Sunday Omaha World Herald and Des Moines Register, and he received many awards for his dedication. After Betty's retirement from Eveready Battery Company, they enjoyed traveling. Gilbert also enjoyed fishing, baseball, playing on several town teams, and listening to old country music.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law Albert and Olive (Hill) Lee; and his wife, Betty Lindberg on April 23, 2017.
Gilbert was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his children, David (Susan) Lindberg, Danny (Sherry) Lindberg and Linda (Gary) Bruning; 12 grandchildren, Kelly (Shay) Lindberg, Kevin (Amy) Lindberg, Kyle Lindberg (Rachel), Lisa (Scott) Sawtelle, Laura (Ryan) Fischer, April (Brock) Stumpff, Brent Olson, Craig (Andria) Olson, Jenna (Brian) McCarthy, Jamie (Kami) Bruning, Trevor Bruning (Erin Ray), and Danielle (Art) Reuter; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Bob (Anna) Lee, Everette (Betty) Lee, and Carl (Sandy) Lee; sisters-in-law, Sara (Jesse) DeLaney and Martha (Val Gene) Walter; and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the Advent Christian Church in Villisca. Burial will be in the Methodist Grove Cemetery in rural Nodaway. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak.
