Jeanette Lorraine Huntsman, 82, Emerson, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Jeanette was born July 25, 1935, in Elliott, the daughter of Orville and Ruby (Cannon) Simpson. The family moved to Red Oak when Jeanette was seven years old. Jeanette was united in marriage to Robert Huntsman on March 15, 1952, in Hiawatha, Kansas. They lived in Tenville for one year working in a family business and one year in Corning, where Bob worked on a farm. The rest of their lives they lived in Emerson. They became parents to three children, Robert, Jr., Karen, and Suzette.
Jeanette worked for Eveready as a production worker, retiring after many years of service. After retirement, she worked as a substitute in the Nishna Valley School system. She also helped Bob take care of the Emerson Cemetery for many years. She was a longtime member of the Emerson Baptist Church, where she served on many committees and was a member of the M & A. She loved football and basketball, and her favorite teams were Nishna Valley, Green Bay, Iowa, and the Boston Celtics.
Jeanette loved watching the kids in all of their sports events. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing and bird watching. She was a member of the Blue Birders in Iowa and Nebraska and loved doing the blue trail with Bob and Lindsey. Bob, Jr. and Andy gave her times of fun and horror with the car racing that they so enjoyed. Jeanette loved people and treasured her time going to lunch with her friends and shopping with the girls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her step-father, Vernon Lindquist; her husband, Robert Huntsman, Sr., on Jan. 19, 2013; her brothers, Lavern and Jerry Simpson; and her sister, Wilma Jean Bruce.
Survivors include her children, Robert Huntsman, Jr. and wife Pam; Karen Gage and husband Mitch; and Suzette Smith and husband Jens, all of Emerson; grandchildren, Kilee Docker and husband Danny of Red Oak; Ben Huntsman of Red Oak; Lindsey Huntsman of Emerson; Andy Gage and wife Heidi of Whiting; Brandi Miller and husband Bill of Onawa; Jenna Geist and husband Scott of Norwalk; and Nathan Smith and wife Mandy of Mineola; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Gavin, and Jonathan Gage; Hannah, Marcus, and Allyson Miller; Kayla and Rylan Geist; Nolan and Luke Smith; and Declan Docker; sister-in-law, Joann Brokaw of Corning; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at the Emerson Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Latta officiating. Burial was in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson Baptist Church or the Emerson Volunteer Fire Department.
