Kirk Alan Vannausdle, 60, Elliott, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Kirk was born Dec. 1, 1956, in Red Oak, the son of Harry and Marilyn (Mellott) Vannausdle. He graduated from Red Oak Community High School in 1975 and attended Iowa State University. Kirk was united in marriage to Cathy Silk in 1976 in Red Oak. Two children were born to this union, Evan and Beth. He later was united in marriage to Kelly Williams Ayres on Jan. 30, 1999. He worked for many years in the family business, Vannausdle Construction, with his father, Harry, and brothers, Chris and Roger. The past 10 years he has also been a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
Kirk was baptized and raised in the First Covenant Church and for the past 15 years attended Faith Community Church. He was a member of the Postal Union and the Southwest Iowa Horseshoe Association. He had many hobbies, including horseshoes, gardening, working, fishing, hunting, golfing, trapping, cutting wood, and any sports event.
Preceding him in death were his father, Harry Vannausdle; mother-in-law, Mary Hughes; and nephews, Jordan Vannausdle and Dalton Valentin.
Survivors include his mother, Marilyn Vannausdle of Red Oak; wife, Kelly Vannausdle of Elliott; children, Evan Vannausdle of Elliott; Beth Vannausdle and fiancé Josh Franzen of Elliott; Karlyn McDonald and husband Wesley of Blue Springs, Mo.; and Shelby Belt and husband Dane of Red Oak; grandchildren, Jayden Amend, Jozlyn and Jerzey Franzen, Oliver McDonald, and Evan Belt II; brothers, Chris Vannausdle and wife Becky of Red Oak, and Roger Vannausdle and wife Tracy of Red Oak; sisters-in-law, Kim Goettsche and husband Kailon of Red Oak; Kathy Palmquist of Red Oak; Kerin Wright and husband Tom of Villisca; and Paula Towne and husband Matt of Henderson; brother-in-law, Nick Hughes and wife Meredith of Ankeny; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends, including his lifelong friend, Don Bond of Red Oak.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Faith Community Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Kirk's memory.
