Larry Lee Kidwell passed away on March 21, 2017, in Hemet, Calif. after a short illness.
Larry was born on July 21, 1927, to Raleigh and Lena (Finley) Kidwell and raised on a farm two miles east of Hastings. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1945, enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly afterward, and was stationed in Hawaii, where he worked in codes and communications.
Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the service, he returned to southwest Iowa and married Bernice C. Kahl of Mineola in 1949. They moved to Red Oak, where Larry helped construct the Union Carbide Eveready factory and was employed there upon its completion in 1948. He worked at the Red Oak Eveready plant in many capacities for over 25 years.
Bernice bore Larry two daughters, Joyce and Carole; and a son, Michael; before she passed away in 1961.
Larry married Rose Elkins of Emerson in 1962, and to this union was born a son, Darrell.
In 1974, Larry accepted a transfer to the Los Angeles area to be Union Carbide's manager of west coast shipping and receiving, until his retirement in 1984.
Larry and Rose separated in 1988.
Larry married Teresa Silva in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; sisters, Ester and June; and brothers, Harold, Gene and David.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; daughters, Joyce Conner and Carole Alaimo; sons, Michael and Darrell; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A military memorial service was held April 10, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery with interment of ashes.
Larry was a very decent, honest and stoic man.
