Richard Warren "Rick" Gustin (1945 - 2017)

Loving husband, father and grandfather, Richard Warren Gustin, 72, Kelso, Wash., passed away April 9, 2017, at home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1945, in Omaha, Neb., to Kenneth and Velura Jeanne (Messinger) Gustin and graduated from Stanton High School in Stanton, in 1963. He was the homecoming king. On Aug. 23, 1963, Rick married his high school sweetheart and homecoming queen, Sharon Sickels in Villisca. They lived in the local area off and on for 40 years.
Rick took courses at Lower Columbia College and was a member of Carpenter's Union No. 1707, retiring as a carpenter and concrete worker in 2008. He was also a member of Stella Lutheran Church and Faith Temple. Rick loved the mountains and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, home projects and spending time with his brothers-in-law, Ed and Travis. Rick was a happy person and loved to joke.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sharon Sickels, at home; three sons, Paul Gustin (Rosalia) and Patrick Gustin, both of Kelso; and Phillip Gustin (Lisa) of Longview, Wash.; six grandchildren, Rebecca Hasty (James), Amanda Gustin, Kimberly Gustin, Brittany Gustin and Tiffany Todd (Dylan), all of Longview; and Erika Gustin of Kelso; 10 great-grandchildren; and his mother, Velura Mullen. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Gustin; and his stepfather, Ronald Mullen.
A memorial service is planned for noon May 6 at Faith Family Christian Center. Pastor Bob Giles, Sr. and Rick's sister-in-law, Corlee Romines, will officiate. A potluck will follow. The family will hold a private scattering of ashes at Rick's favorite hunting grounds, "Three Humps."
