Tom was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Englewood, Colo., the son of Edwin and Alice (Quinn) Shellberg. The family moved to the Elliott area when Tom was five years old. He graduated from Elliott High School in 1956 and attended Iowa State University and Northwest Missouri State University.

In 1990, Tom went out on his own, operating TBS Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning.
Tom was active in the Griswold community where he served on the Telephone Board for 27 years; Griswold Country Club Board for nine years; and the Griswold School Board for nine years. He enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, and was a sports enthusiast, always cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones.
