Vyrle Baker, 83, Creston, formerly of Leon and Red Oak, died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.
Vyrle Patrick Baker, son of Stephen Lawrence Baker and Victoria Ann (Cooper) Baker, was born July 1, 1934, in Leon. Vyrle was educated in Leon schools. Vyrle served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years.
On Jan. 4, 1974, Vyrle Baker married Margaret (Shawler) Calvin. They settled in Lenox prior to moving to Red Oak in July of 1974, where he worked for the water department for the next 24 years. Vyrle was a member of the Red Oak Assembly of God Church and the Afton Assembly of God Church.
Vyrle is survived by his son, Scott Baker of Rancho Paloes Verdes, Calif.; three step-sons, David (wife Penny) Calvin of Columbia, Md., Jerry (wife Sherri) Calvin of Lenox, and Michael (wife Pam) Calvin of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sisters, Fern (husband Pete) Salas of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Laverne (husband Jack) Willis of Clive; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Janice (husband Ron) Spurr of Creston; and a brother-in-law, Greg (wife Sherry) Shawler of Creston and many nieces and nephews.
Vyrle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret in January of 2018; two sisters Pauline (Earl) McCullough, and Bernice Curtwright; a brother, Earl Baker; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Baker.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Powers Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Burial will be at North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials can be given to the Afton Assembly of God Church or the Greater Regional EMT Unit. Online condolences can be given at powersfh.com.
