Mr. Elma Ray "Pete" Stancill, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 20, 2014. The funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Stancill Homeplace Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour.
Mr. Stancill, a Pitt County native, was a lifelong resident of Belvoir. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II and the Korean War, and retired after 21 years of service as a highly decorated Master Sergeant. After the service he returned to the homeplace to take care of his parents and maintain the Stancill family farm. He was an active member of Gum Swamp Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lenora B. Stancill; sons, Michael R. Stancill and wife, Cindy, of Apex, and Steven P. Stancill and wife, Kim, of New Hill; daughter, Lisa Stancill Minschew and husband, Jim, of Clayton; grandsons, Derek A. Stancill of Apex and Brett T. Stancill of Wilmington; and a sister, Annie Mae Joyner, of Greenville.
Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Gum Swamp Free Will Baptist Church, 2072 Gum Swamp Church Rd., Greenville, NC 27834.

Lenora, Michael, Steve & Lisa...So sorry to hear about Pete. I still remember the times all of us would hang out at Mammy and Pa's..I will call & visit soon. Always family..
