Dr. Charles F. McAndrew, 91, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Dr. McAndrew, a native of Mount Lebanon, Pa., served in the U. S. Navy during World War II
in North Africa. He operated his chiropractic practice in Greenville from 1957 until retiring in 2002. A former member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, he was active in the Greenville House Church.
Dr. McAndrew was instrumental in starting the Sheltered Workshop-ECVC, where he served as chairman of the board for two terms. He had been a board member of the Flynn Christian Home for Alcoholics, presiding as chairman of the board for two terms. A past scoutmaster of the American Legion Scout Troop, he had served as governor of the Moose Lodge and as vice-president of the Civitan Club. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian James McAndrew in 2006; a son, Charles F. "Charlie" McAndrew Jr.; and sisters, Sally Plotz and Anna Mae Murray.
He is survived by his daughters, Jane Barton and husband, David of Chesapeake, Va. and Helen Marshall and Bill Callow of Vanceboro; grandchildren, Tina Allen Williams of Greenville, Jane Dare Barton Quinones and husband, Randy, of Virginia Beach, Va. and Richard Barton of Chesapeake, Va.; step-grandchildren, Beth Twyne of Manteo and Mark D. Barton of Greenville; great-grandson, Corbett Williams of Greenville; brother, William A. "Bill" McAndrew of Wichita, Kan.; brother-in-law, Bob Plotz of Martins Ferry, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
